Peter Gilligan was an old priest.. He was very loving and caring towards his flock. The people in his parish were suffering from an epidemic. So he was busy and tired always. He had neither joy nor peace.
Even though he was weary.he tried hard to reach the needful. He was very sincere and a true believer of God. He was also humble and sympathetic in nature. He was very much dedicated and served his parishioners day and night. His faith in God is the central theme of the poem.
